In the next few posts, I’ll be focusing on Energy Healing — a topic that often feels new-age, esoteric, and sometimes hard to grasp. There's also a lot of misinformation out there, which can make it even more confusing for those who are curious but skeptical.
Coming from a background in science and technology, opening my mind to energy healing was life-changing. If you're new to energy healing and interested in learning more, I hope my personal, experience-based explanation will make it easier to understand.
My Journey
I was introduced to energy healing in 2016 in the form of a Japanese practice called Reiki. At the time, I was suffering immensely emotionally and had reached a point where therapy was not enough.
Reiki offered me a completely different kind of practice, and over time I noticed substantial benefits in myself. I even decided to complete Level 1 and 2 of Reiki training so I could share it with others. In 2019, I expanded my practice by becoming a Reverend with a Shamanic Spirit School of Clairvoyance and Healing, to complement Reiki.
The Ambiguity
Energy healing isn't as tangible or evidence-based as science; it's something you have to experience. I want to be clear – my intention isn’t to convince you of its existence or benefits.
A lot of things in this world don’t fit neatly into boxes, and energy healing is one of them. It challenges us to step outside of our comfort zones and take a leap of faith. That leap may or may not resonate with you, and if it doesn’t, that's okay.
Personally, I’ve come to peace with the ambiguity. Despite my evidence-driven brain, the impact of Reiki on my life has been undeniable.
Foundations of Energy Healing
Foundationally, any form of energy healing believes that we are more than just the physical body. Just as we have our physical body composed of skin, tissues, organs, muscles, and bones; we also have an energy body – a subtler aspect of ourselves.
Many ancient traditions believe that disease originates in the energy body before manifesting in the physical body. Hence, the goal of energy healing is to nurture the energy body in ways that foster protection, healing, fortification, and cleansing.
What’s Energy?
Let’s try to decode the term ‘energy’. Here are a few examples of how disruptions in the energy body might feel:
A sense of dread or unease in a place or room full of people without a clear reason.
Tightness in the body that doesn’t feel muscular, like something is stuck and needs to be unblocked.
Other uncomfortable emotions such as anxiety, sadness, purposelessness, anger.
Chronic pain, spasms, or weakness in the body for which you haven’t found a clear medical basis.
Different traditions, originating in different regions of the world, have their own unique protocols and mechanisms for catering to the energy body. Traditional Chinese Medicine from China, Ayurveda from India, and Reiki from Japan, to name a few.
What I find fascinating is that despite originating in different regions and times, with little to no information exchange, these healing traditions share similar foundational concepts.
